Wellness Recovery Services

Somayina graduated from the Port Townsend School of Massage in 2019. Her roots in bodywork began growing up around horses her whole life. From around the age of seven, she worked closely with horses that had experienced trauma — physical, emotional, and mental — learning early to feel the horse, not use the horse. She was taught to always perform bodywork before asking the animal to work, to warm muscles with movement after manipulation, and to establish emotional presence and connection before asking anything further.

Through working with increasingly challenging behavior in horses, and later with dogs that had behavioral issues, Somayina observed that most problems had deeper roots beyond reactive behavior. She learned that treating symptoms alone, controlling behavior, or numbing the animal was less productive than understanding and addressing the underlying trauma. This required patience, discipline, and rebuilding neuromuscular connection and trust between brain and body.

Somayina then trained as a farrier (horse shoer), studying how foundational alignment affects the whole body. She also continued education in equine bodywork and fascial/neuromuscular techniques with crossover into human anatomy. She recognized that balancing the horse alone is insufficient if the rider is out of balance, since physical and emotional imbalances in the rider can shut down the animal, similar to how humans shut down in response to stress.

Building on this knowledge, Somayina shifted her focus to humans. She has completed numerous continuing education courses in clinical massage and related techniques. Having personally experienced trauma and injuries, she understands what it’s like to feel out of control of internal discomfort and the need for moments of peace.

Each appointment is customized for the individual, though there are some general guidelines. Your current body state is influenced more than less by your daily habits, and sometimes by external traumas. Somayina is not a pill; she is an assistant to how you treat your body. Massage has powerful qualities and can be used in a variety of ways — from a momentary break from life to an intense reset or deep rebalancing.

Clients are encouraged to consider what they want to get out of their session before coming in (feel free to put in notes). Appointments are booked by time. For your first session, expect a portion of your appointment to include a brief check-in and meet-and-greet. If you are a one-time out-of-towner, note that in your booking; longer-term intentions are less relevant for single visits. If you would like a meet-and-greet over the phone, please book at least a week in advance and text to request it.

Somayina is well-rounded in many techniques to address the mind-body connection, fascia, neuromuscular function, and overall relaxation. She works with clients seeking a moment of rest as well as those committed to reclaiming their body. Her holistic approach focuses on treating the whole person, supporting the nervous system, and helping clients find equanimity within.
